A call for Richmond Indiana / Wayne County Apple Mac users!!!

I’m about to start work on the Wayne County Apple Users Group, but before I do so I’d like to hear from any and all users of ANY product made by Apple, Inc. in the area. We need to start building this community and what better way to start than getting in touch with one another?

Feel free to post a comment on this entry OR shoot me an email at evan-at-evanagee.com and we’ll get things rolling. I’d love to have some input from everyone so feel free to include any thoughts you might have about how an Apple User Group might be useful to you.

Hey, Evan. I’m about to get a MacBook Pro. Probably in the next couple of weeks. WOOHOO!
I know there really aren’t any “deals”, per se, on Macs, but I haven’t yet decided where I’m going to get it. So if you have any good ideas, let me know. I may either pick it up at the Apple store in Indy, or I think I can probably coerce Sweetwater into shipping it to me for free. 15″ screen, 2.4MHz, 4Gb RAM, 160Gb HD, Logic Express pre-installed. It should run about $3500, it looks like. Ouch.
Glad to hear things are going well for you.

    Hey Barry!
Congrats on getting the new Mac, you’re gonna love it!
I actually do have some advice about your Mac purchase that can help you save a pretty good amount of money. First off I recommend buying it on eBay. Sure, there’s not the same guarantee of a positive buying experience, but if you follow the typical eBay rules of buying from good sellers and reading the description carefully you’ll save a lot. I bought a 17″ 2.33Ghz MacBook Pro that was opened but brand new for $2500 shipped. That’s $500 less than it would have been direct from Apple shipped. So I would try that first and see if you can find an individual that seems small time but trustworthy and you should be all set!
Another way to save lots of money is to not have the memory be factory installed by Apple. Apple charges an additional $700 to install the 2GB of RAM. However, if you purchase the memory from MemoryX.com (available here: http://www.memoryx.net/apple2gbddr2s.html) the memory only costs $140 and it’s EXACTLY the same Samsung memory that Apple would install for $700.
    Have fun!
    Evan
