One of the websites that I visit quite often is Slashdot. Today the have a story posted about an article from the 50s that included a photo of what scientists THEN believed a home computer could look like in the year 2004. It’s quite amazing. Click the image below to see a larger version as well as the caption that goes along with the photo.
The caption says: Scientists from the RAND Corporation have created this model to illustrate how a “home computer” could look in th eyear 2004. However, the needed technology will not be economically feasible for the average home. Also the scientists readily admit that the comptuer will require not yet invented technology to actually work, but 50 years from now scientific progress is expected to solve these problems. With teletype interface and the Fortran language, the computer will be easy to use and only [cuts off].
I find it amazing and exciting to think that scientists of today that make predictions about future products may be way off. Maybe things will be very interesting in 50 years. Maybe we’ll have new products that are nothing like what we have now. Maybe we’ll become innovative again.
Just thought that was interesting…
