With rumors and speculations abounding online today many people are wondering what exactly Apple will be unveiling on the 12th of October. Apple e-mailed
invitations to reporters for a special event next week,
prompting speculation on the Internet that the company would
unveil a long-rumored iPod that can display videos. However, another popular mac rumors site has stated that the event will more likely unveil new PowerMac and PowerBook models. Could G5 PowerBooks be here? We’ll have to wait and see.
Personally, I can’t see Apple making a decision like this. There isn’t enough of a market for them to try and break in and take things over, the demand just isn’t there especially considering that if the rumored video iPod has specs similar to the iPod Photo it will have to cost at least $400, making it much more expensive than other portable DVD players. To me this spells debunked for the iPod Video rumors.
What seems more likely is that the not-often updated PowerMac and PowerBook lines will see substantial updates. For the PowerMac this could mean a dual 3Ghz machine and for the PowerBook it might mean that we’ll finally see a G5 inside. Either way, I’m excited to see what they have to offer next week.
